    Who we are looking for:

     

    F&R is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our Charlotte, North Carolina office! The candidate will work in a geotechnical engineering department that provides professional services on a wide variety of projects including: buildings, bridges, roadways and pavements, retaining and shoring structures, underground infrastructure, storage tanks, towers, dams and other civil works projects.  This position will perform and manage geotechnical engineering services on public and private sector projects within our geotechnical engineering services group during both the design and construction phases of projects.  Since you will be the lead on a variety of project assignments, you will often have to coordinate the efforts of other members of the geotechnical services department.

    Responsibilities

    What you’ll be doing:

     

    Including, but not limited to:

     

    • Planning and coordinating field exploration programs including site reconnaissance.
    • Performing soil and rock classification.
    • Planning and coordinating geotechnical laboratory testing programs.
    • Performing geotechnical engineering analysis, calculations and computer modeling.
    • Developing geotechnical engineering design parameters and recommendations.
    • Preparation of geotechnical engineering project work scopes, schedules, budgets and proposals.
    • Preparation of geotechnical engineering reports and deliverables.
    • Managing geotechnical engineering projects from inception, including project schedules and budgets.
    • Overseeing, mentoring and providing guidance for support staff that may include other engineers, geologists, drill crews and subcontractors to ensure our goal of exceeding our clients’ expectations on every project.
    • Interacting with existing and potential clients, and working with business development staff.

    Qualifications

    What you need to have: 

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university (Master’s Degree preferred).
    • North Carolina and/or South Carolina registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.), or ability to obtain within 6-months.
    • 5 to 10 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience including analysis and project management. At least 2 years’ experience managing a team of geoprofessionals is preferred.Working knowledge of local and regional geology in North and South Carolina is preferred.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills along with the ability to work in a team environment.
    • Robust project and task management skills, including scheduling, execution and follow-up.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively, internally and externally, and demonstrate the ability to produce and review written reports for clients and senior staff.
    • Be a team player who is self-motivated and performance driven.
    • Local candidates with knowledge of area business and industry practices preferred.
    • Must be a problem solver that can address roadblocks with poise and control.
    • Travel will be required to and from project sites within the Charlotte area.
    • Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record required.
