    We are looking for a Senior Engineer (CMT and Geotechnical) to be based off of our Crozet, VA location! As a Senior Engineer, you’ll be a great leader with a background in private sector and governmental construction projects to manage the providing of geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing and special inspection services.  Since you will be the lead on a variety of projects, you will often have to coordinate the efforts of other engineers, technicians, special inspectors, and sub-consultants to deliver results that ensure our goal of exceeding our clients’ expectations on every project.

    Responsibilities

    What you’ll be doing:

     

    Including, but not limited to:

     

    • Project management of construction materials testing and special inspection projects addressing building materials such as soils, asphalt, and concrete. 
    • Analyzing reports, maps, drawings, specifications, and other project data
    • Coordinating or directing project budgets, record keeping, materials testing, and inspections
    • Coordinating with contractors
    • Supervising and directing engineering technicians, special inspectors, and subcontractor
    • Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria during the performance of engineering services
    • Working with a staff of engineers, technicians, and admin personnel to provide service
    • Satisfy multiple and unrelated deadlines
    • Authorizing and/or reviewing technical reports and letters
    • Work may also include performing field testing and site visits
    • Writing proposals for new projects
    • Setting up and coordinating subsurface explorations
    • Analyzing soil boring data and performing geotechnical calculations related to shallow and deep foundation support, pavement design, and slope stability
    • Writing and reviewing geotechnical reports

    Qualifications

    What you need to have:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field
    • 5+ Years of experience in construction materials inspection and testing highly preferred
    • Must have or be able to obtain P.E. within 6 months of hire 
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent people and customer service skills
    • Ability to work in an independent or team environment
    • Ability to be self-motivated and performance driven
    • Highly organized individual
    • Valid driver’s license with good-standing driving record
    • Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R’s pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening, and driving record
