    Who we are looking for:

     

    F&R is looking for a Geotechnical Staff Engineer to be a part of its Virginia Transportation Program, located in our Roanoke office!  This is a unique staff engineering position that is envisioned to utilize the candidate’s engineering skills in a dual role with exposure to geotechnical consulting on transportation projects (primarily horizontal projects) as well as other F&R Roanoke branch traditional geotechnical (more vertically oriented) projects.  The position will provide engineering expertise, performing and/or assisting engineering personnel in implementing geotechnical engineering projects, supporting field crews, performing and/or reviewing laboratory test results and other related engineering activities.

    Responsibilities

    What you’ll be doing:

     

    Including, but not limited to:

     

    • Planning and coordinating field exploration and laboratory testing programs.
    • Field reconnaissance, field logging and managing drilling program for variety of projects.
    • Performing geotechnical engineering analysis, calculations and computer modeling.
    • Preparation of geotechnical engineering reports and deliverables.
    • Managing geotechnical engineering projects from inception, including project schedules and budgets.
    • Preparation of geotechnical engineering project work scopes, budgets and proposals.
    • Overseeing and providing guidance for field and other support staff.
    • Interacting with existing and potential clients.

    Qualifications

    What you need to have:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
    • EIT/EI is preferred with a commitment to a PE tract expected.
    • Previous experience in related areas preferred (geotechnical engineering, transportation, etc.).
    • Must be detail oriented.
    • Be a team player who is self-motivated and performance driven.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively, internally and externally, and demonstrate the ability to produce and review written reports for clients and senior staff. 
    • Should be knowledgeable of site work and earthwork construction techniques.
    • Strong project or task management skills, including scheduling, executioin, and follow up. 
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both oral and written 
    • Ability to successfully manage numeorous assignments and meet deadlines. 
    • Ability to work independently, and within a team environment to achieve goals 
    • Valid driver's license with good standing driving-record 
    • Some travel will be required
    • Must be willing to participate and pass F&R's pre-employment screening, including a background check, drug screening, and driving record
